To fully implement the spirit of the 12th CPC Congress of Nanjing University and accelerate the university’s international development drive, a delegation headed by Professor Liu Bin, Dean of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, paid a visit to Singapore starting on March 30, 2026. The group successively visited the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).
On the morning of March 30, the delegation held a symposium with Professor Sikdar, Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NUS, and other faculty members. The two sides had in-depth and candid discussions. Dean Liu gave a detailed introduction to Nanjing University and the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, with a focus on the school’s talent training initiatives. Both parties reached a preliminary agreement to further expand exchanges for faculty and students, as well as academic cooperation in the field of electronic information.

In the afternoon, the delegation proceeded to NTU and met with Associate Professor Teh Kah Chan (Undergraduate Associate Chair) and Associate Professor Michelle (Graduate Associate Chair) from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. After brief presentations to build mutual understanding, the two sides conducted thorough discussions on refining the 3.5+0.5+1 joint training program. Dean Liu suggested that during the 0.5-year undergraduate segment of the program, greater efforts should be made to improve the quality of graduation projects. This will enable students to fully engage in postgraduate research under the supervision of NTU academic advisors. He also proposed enhancing academic tutoring to encourage outstanding students to pursue master’s degrees afterwards.
For the postgraduate phase, both sides explored the establishment of a tiered training framework and discussed research collaboration approaches to guide top students in transitioning from coursework to hands-on laboratory research. Later, Dean Liu and the delegation met with ten senior undergraduates from Nanjing University currently participating in the joint program at NTU. They enquired about students’ study and living progress, and encouraged them to leverage NTU’s world-class academic environment to broaden their global vision.Following the meeting, Dean Liu also called on Dr. Lin Yongqing, IEEE Life Fellow and Adjunct Professor of our School, to exchange views on the development of joint training courses.

On March 31, the delegation visited the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), a research institute under ASTAR, and jointly hosted the **ASTAR I2R — Nanjing University Joint Academic Seminar**. Professor Liu Bin and Dr. Sumei Sun, Executive Director of I2R, delivered opening remarks at the event. Eight researchers from both sides presented their latest research findings and engaged in extensive discussions on cutting-edge topics.
From Nanjing University: Professor Feng Yijun shared advances in reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided 5G wireless communications; Professor Zhou Haibo presented research on space-air-ground integrated eVTOL networks for the low-altitude economy; Professor Tao Tao introduced the latest progress and prospects of GaN-based Micro-LED display technologies.
From I2R: Dr. Ernest Kurniawan talked about resilient connectivity for integrated terrestrial and non-terrestrial intelligent networks; Dr. Xinyi elaborated on scalable modular antenna panels and satellite communication terminals; Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan shared research on network digital twins for maritime communication systems; Dr. Gary Lee analyzed AI and machine learning algorithms and their applications in next-generation wireless systems.

This overseas visit has consolidated the School’s long-standing cooperative ties with world-renowned universities NUS and NTU. Meanwhile, the joint high-level seminar with A*STAR has opened new avenues for collaborative research. Moving forward, the School will deepen substantive cooperation with leading global universities in talent recruitment, academic exchanges and joint training programs. It will strive to elevate the international academic standing of the electronic information discipline, and build a sound platform for cultivating high-caliber innovative talents with global perspectives.
