Jiwei Zhao was honored WCSP 2021 Best Conference Paper award by IEEE WCSP for his paper Joint Reception and Parallel Base Stations Selection in Uplink Fully-decoupled RAN for 6G.
The WCSP 2021 was held in the virtual meeting, on October 20-22, 2021. The aim of the conference is to provide an international forum that brings together researchers from academia and practitioners from industry to exchange advances in recent research work on all aspects of wireless communications and signal processing.
With the ever proliferating Internet of Everything (IoE) users in the next generation mobile communications networks (6G), how to enable high-efficient network resource utilization, provide customized services and realize cost-effective network operation in meeting the massive access and asymmetry service requirements of trillion-level users is of great challenge. To this end, an original fully-decoupled radio access network (FD-RAN) architecture is introduced in [1], in which base stations (BSs) are physically decoupled into control BSs, and uplink BSs and downlink BSs. In this paper, we investigate the joint BSs reception problem in uplink FD-RAN. Specifically, we propose a large-scale fading decoding (LSFD) based two-tier signal combination framework, including the localized signal combination in uplink BSs and centralized signal combination in the edge cloud. To further reduce fronthaul load, computation requirement, and energy consumption, we design an effective spectrum efficiency maximization based parallel uplink BSs selection algorithm. Through effective numerical analysis and simulation, it is demonstrated that our proposed joint BSs reception solutions can achieve excellent performance in terms of spectrum efficiency and fronthaul load.
